Well, right now we're getting winds between 80 and 100 kilometers an hour.
The peak wind we've had here in Galveston about 112,
but farther south where the storm barrel made, hurricane barrel made landfall, we had wind gusts over 140 kilometers an hour.
The wind gets all the headlines in these hurricanes, but the biggest killer is the storm surge and the rain.
We're talking 2 to 3 meters of rain and water from the ocean just coming in and flooding In the last decade,
more than half of the deaths in the US from hurricanes are coming from that storm surge.
That's something that officials here in the state of Texas and locally are warning people about.
People are heating that warning, they're staying inside, but we're getting a lot of wind right now.
power is out for much of the island here in Galveston, which is a big resort community.
People come out here for, compete the heat, but right now they are locked up inside trying to wait for this thing to pass.
