Now to today's top stories.
Is the Chinese Communist Party trying to set up a footprint in the shomi state?
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is trying to find out.
Bailey Sapina, a Chinese service center in St.
Louis Wednesday after allegedly finding evidence that it violated the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act.
The is whether the facility is another Chinese police outpost.
The service center is run by China's United Front Work Department The agency seeks to influence other countries'
foreign policy and collects overseas intelligence for Beijing.
The agency also has six other branches in the U.S.
California, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Texas, and
According to a report from the Daily Court,
the In 2018, U.S.-based representatives from these Chinese service centers met with officials from China's Policing Authority, the Ministry of Public Security.
The representatives said they're using new technology to conduct so-called cross-border remote justice services overseas.
Their ties to the United Front work department concerns.
That's because Chinese public security officials worked with the United Front to set up over 100 police stations around the world,
including in the U.S.
Chinese say the offices help overseas Chinese with passport services,
while human rights groups say they help Beijing harass and track down dissidents living in China.
In 2023, prosecutors charged two men with running a Chinese police station in Manhattan.
They allegedly tracked down Chinese dissidents living in the US and joined demonstrations against Falun Gong,
a spiritual meditation group that has come under brutal persecution at the hands of Beijing.
Now just imagine the NYPD.
opening an undeclared secret police station in Beijing.
It will be unthinkable."
According to a report from Human Rights Organization safeguard defenders, overseas Chinese police stations helped Beijing persuade dissidents to return to China.
China considers these people fugitives.
And was able to get over 230,000 such people to return to China between 2021 and 2022.
Over on Capitol Hill, eight senators, led by Senator Marsha Blackburn, have urged the DOJ and FBI to investigate these Chinese service centers.
From Chinese consulates to state-backed media outlets, a report sums up Washington's policies towards Chinese entities designated as foreign missions.
And he does Sam Wong has the details.
In 2020,
Washington designated an additional 17 Chinese entities as foreign missions, ranging from state-run news outlets to other groups linked to the regime's influence operations.
According to a new report by U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission,
these entities are either, quote, substantially or effectively controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.
Traditionally, diplomatic agencies like Constellists and Embassies are considered foreign missions.
But under federal law, any foreign-controlled organization that engages in international affairs in the U.
and entered as well.
In 2020, the U.S.
decided to cut the number of Chinese nationals working in Beijing's state-run media down to 100,
a Chinese consulate in Texas was shut down the same year due to allegations of espionage in intellectual properties left.
Beijing retaliated by expelling American journalists and closing the U.S.
consulate Chengdu when it comes to diplomacy, the report says U.S.
diplomats often restricted and closely monitored by authorities while in China.
That's as America grants Chinese diplomats broad access across the U.S.
As of May 2024, the State Department lists the Chinese embassy, four Chinese consulates and 17 other Chinese entities as foreign missions.
But the report says there's little information.
Information available their compliance with U.S.
laws and regulations.
Sam Wong and TD News.
Turning our attention now to the Republican National Convention, former President Trump's running mate J.D.
Vance vowed to pivot Washington's current trade policies with China.
His priority, protecting manufacturing jobs here at home.
We will protect the wages of American workers and stop the Chinese Communist Party from building their middle class on the backs of American citizens.
In a Wednesday speech, Vance said career politicians have destroyed U.S.
communities failed trade policy.
policies.
Those include what he called a sweetheart trade deal that not only sent American jobs to China,
but also enabled an influx of cheap Chinese goods.
Vance also touched on Chinese-made chemicals used to make fentanyl, a that claims the lives of tens of thousands of Americans.
Emerging as a Trump ally and a rising star in the U.S.
Senate, Vance previously called China the biggest threat to the U.S.
Trump's running mate J.D.
Vance told the Republican National Convention Wednesday night that American interests must be top priority in all foreign policy.
NTD's Washington correspondent Jack Bradley is at the convention He spoke to Senator Marcia Blackburn about Vance's position in China.
Senator Marcia Blackburn, thank you very much for joining us here today.
I'm delighted to you.
Thank you.
J.D.
Vance has talked about how the Chinese regime is America's number one adversary.
Correct.
And what is the Chinese regime doing to get that title?
Well, what we should be looking at is their goal.
You know, there is, they call it their 100 year marathon.
And they plan to be globally dominant by the time you get to 2050.
And what we have learned is that China does not fear Joe Biden.
They see him as weak.
And they know that he is to stop them,
and they feel like this is their running room, if you will, to advance in trade to be adventurous around the globe.
You can look at how they've moved into South America, how they've moved into Central America.
You look at what they've done and off the horn of Africa.
They're in Djibouti and the port that they have built.
And then they've put a naval base with that port.
Do we think they are doing this for commerce?
Do we think it's just a part of the Belt and Road Initiative?
No.
So this is about global domination and you look at the axis of evil,
Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea and you know that their intent is to take down the U.S.
We believe in freedom, free people in free markets.
What they do is to go in and be able to people,
and to dominate and to transform into their image, and that's not what we do, it's not what we believe.
believe, we believe in freedom.
It is important that in all of our actions,
whether it's legislation, whether it's diplomatic, that China realize we see them as an adversary, not the people of China, but the Chinese Communists.
and it is important also you mentioned Taiwan.
Talk to me about what the Chinese regime is to undermine America here without firing a single shot known
as unrestricted What China is doing is their propaganda machine, and of course, we have seen this play out in sister city programs.
We have seen it in these Confucius institutes and Confucius classrooms.
That's all part of the soft propaganda that China is forcing into American society.
We also know that the CCP has established in different places.
They are police stations and that they try to survive.
Chinese nationals that are here in the United States.
We're aware of some of that activity.
And of course, you always have the general spy activity.
The American people saw this play out with the spy balloon that drifted across the country not long ago.
Senator Marsha Blackburn, thank you very much for your time here today.
Always good to see you, thank you.
And now a closer look at what Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin discussed in an interview with Bloomberg about China.
Here's what he China is not just a rival.
They're to dominate the world and they're trying to do it at the expense of the United States.
They use economic imperialism to do it.
They stabor rattle, and on top of that, they use every ounce to infiltrate every bit of the U.S.
economy to understand how they can influence it.
What that is translated to is a real recognition that we need to not only protect ourselves against China,
And so the tariffs that President Trump imposed on China when he struck the first Chinese deal
were critical in order to rebalance an unbalanced situation with China.
And companies that are doing business in China take Ford,
for example, I here's Ford who has a big market share in China, and then they want to build a electric vehicle battery.
plant in the United States.
And I can guarantee you that the Chinese government put immense pressure on them to use cattle technology in the United States.
And now we're seeing that cattle technology is being banned by the U.S.
military because they're worried about the influence from the Chinese Communist Party.
I this is the way China does business, and we've got to make sure that we're fighting back.
A $500,000 settlement.
The University of Maryland has agreed to pay the federal government to resolve an allegation from the Justice Department.
The DOJ says their researchers didn't disclose funding from Chinese tech giants when applying for federal research grants.
Here's more.
Federal agencies require grant applicants to disclose all foreign support.
The alleged three researchers from the university received five federal research grants between 2015 and 2020,
and at the same time, they were working on projects funded by three Chinese companies.
Huawei, Taobao, and I The Justice Department said the researchers didn't mention their foreign support when
applying for grants from the National Science Foundation and the U.S.
Department the Army.
The University of Maryland admitted that they got the funds from Chinese companies, but said the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing.
Its vice president said the situation was the result of good faith interpretations of agency disclosure guidance or unintentional clerical errors.
A top Taiwanese official saying Thursday that the island's defense spending has hit historic highs.
Standing at 2.5% of This, in response to former President Trump's remark, that Taiwan should pay the U.S.
for its defense.
Taiwan's foreign ministry said the island is modernizing its military.
In future,
Taiwan will continue to work with the United States and like-minded countries to strengthen Taiwan's defense capability and jointly maintain peace and stability
in the Taiwan Strait.
Trump said the U.S.
is, quote, no different than an insurance company, adding Taiwan is able to pay because they're immensely wealthy.
A Taiwanese expert says Trump's insurance theory would benefit Taiwan.
This means that the U.S.
policy towards Taiwan has completely shifted from strategic ambiguity to strategic clarity.
This idea of I pay for your protection could result in Taiwan buying advanced weapons from the U.S.
If Washington is willing to sell them, of course, Taiwan would be happy to buy them.
Beijing like this narrative.
Washington maintains a vague stance on Taiwan.
The U.S.
recognizes claims over Taiwan, but does not acknowledge it.
Washington also remains vague on whether it would defend Taiwan in the case of a Chinese evasion.
It's called strategic ambiguity.
The expert added that if the U.S.
clearly stated it would defend Taiwan, Chinese leader Xi Jinping would be ill at ease.
China has halted nuclear arms control talks with the United States in protest over Washington's support for Taiwan.
The Chinese regime's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday said they made the decision because of repeated U.S.
arms sales to Taiwan in recent months.
The Chinese regime is joining Russia and refusing to engage in nuclear relations.
analysts say the decision deals a potentially serious setback to global arms control efforts.
The U.S.
State reacted to the news saying Beijing's approach undermines strategic stability and increases the risk of arms race dynamics.
A fire broke out in China's southwestern province of Sichuan Wednesday.
State media reports say 16 were killed.
NTD can't independently verify that number due to the regime's history of covering up casualties.
Let's take a closer look.
In a video clip shows a black smoke pouring out of the large building and rising into the sky.
There were still people trapped inside the building at the time of filming.
It's unclear how many were inside when the fire broke out.
75 people have been evacuated.
The has been put out and a preliminary investigation shows the incident was caused by construction work.

Press against press freedom?

I told him that day that I refused.
