Kindle Paperwhite vs Kindle 11th Gen Review - 雙語字幕
Oh, all right, enough of you got me to do this last year.
In 2023,
I made a video talking about the base model Kindle,
how this ended up replacing my old paper white, which is the previous generation paper white.
and how this was good enough for me.
Like I was very happy with this Kindle on price, about bucks.
It's the lightest Kindle I've ever had, super portable.
The DPI screen and having the backlight on here was more than enough.
Everything that I wanted in a Kindle.
If you watch the review and you've got one, like I'm with you, like this is the Kindle.
but enough of you, enough of you, wanted me to try the Kindle Paperwhite, the 11th gen, so these are both from the 11th generation.
So in this video, I'm gonna talk about sort of the comparison, I've been using the Paperwhite now for about two weeks.
I have some thoughts.
So the Paperwhite, it's like cheapest right now, is about 150.
If you want the 16 gigabyte model,
if you want the case that goes with it, really quickly you end up with a device that is done.
double the cost of the entry level Kindle, right?
So like, I don't have the case for this.
I've just been throwing this around in the bag.
With the paper wire to decide, do you know what?
Instead of, you know, just these two side by side, I'm gonna get the case.
I'm gonna get the 16 gigabytes.
So at least they're sort of somewhat similar.
But didn't want anything about this paper white to be a downgrade.
I it to be nothing but upgrades across the board.
No screen ads on either of those.
Don't, no, don't do lock screen ads.
Never do lock screen ads.
I'm not a lock screen ad fan guy.
If you do.
You know, more power to you, but yeah, don't do that.
The first thing that I had to get used to with the Kindle Paper Y is that it is a bigger device.
This has a 6.8 inch screen display while the base model Kindle has, I think, a six inch screen.
It is nicer to read on a bigger screen.
but the Kindle Paperwhite is almost twice the weight without the case of the base model Kindle.
If throw the case on, now you have a device that weighs three times as much as this one.
We're like,
one of the things I love about the base model Kindle is I can pick this up
and like just even forget that I'm holding it.
I just, I cruise through a biography of hate.
in right before the paper white showed up and that was awesome.
Like I had several reading sessions where like I had sat down for like an hour or two hours and I was just reading,
enjoying reading and the device kind of like faded away.
Like I wasn't thinking about holding this thing.
Even if I pulled the like the Kindle paper white out of And just holding that up next to the base model,
you know, it is bigger, but it weighs more so far with the paper wire.
I feel like I read for maybe 20, 30 minutes, and then I'm done.
I find myself like closing the little flap, it goes to sleep, that's really nice.
Maybe that'll change,
but I did something to be aware of,
especially if you already have the base model Kindle,
and you've liked the size and weight of this,
I don't think you're actually getting anything that you would like more out of the paper way.
This case is nice, it's not bad.
I like the magnets that like sort of you open it up and it unlocks it kind of like an iPad.
That feels really good.
Now, when you open this thing up, it's like screen that is not recessed.
So the screen on the base model Kindle is like a little bit recessed.
I kind of liked that though.
Just the sort of like flat slab while it looks better.
It's like an interface I find like I do more accidental.
like page changes because I had like my thumbs over here on the side and I felt like rolls over.
There isn't that like physical demarcation.
That's mostly like just a minor inconvenience.
I feel like the more I use it the less I do that.
It looks nice.
but I feel like the I kind of like the tactileness of having the screen set in on the base model Kindle.
Now obviously the other big thing about the display on the Kindle Paperwhite is being able to have the warm like I said backlight last
time and people went like berserk in the comments like I get that it's not like a
backlit pixel that's coming through it is like a technically a side light but let's put it this way the light from the Kindle.
You control how much, like, warmth in the light, which I found kind of strange, but I was like, right, that's of cool.
I know in the Signature Edition, there's like an auto white balance that the Signature Paper White Kindle Edition can do.
It's fine.
I don't use it too often.
Again, I like kind of having like a reading light.
That is my preference.
I personally haven't found the like warm backlight to be an attractive enough feature that I'm like,
oh, I really want the Kindle Paperwhite over the base model Kindle.
So far, battery life seems fine.
I think I wore it down to maybe like 70% in the last two weeks, which is great.
I not using the backlights on either of the devices really helps with the battery life that I've seen on both.
I've heard some people saying that they were getting poor battery life with the base model Kindle, but again, not using the backlight.
I like that's, I'm seeing probably a different performance then.
then someone would say you have the backlight on 50, 100% or whatever most of the time.
The page turns, I think Amazon advertises this device as having 20% faster page.
Um, I don't know if I noticed that or like the ink refreshing or whatever, but I think that's like the stat that they use.
I personally don't know if I've recognized that in the page turns,
but definitely when you're in your home or your library sort of scrolling you know,
the different books and different volumes,
that does seem slightly faster and better than the base model Kindle and definitely my previous paper white and previous kindles that I've used.
So outside of that, the question now remains, like, is it...
worth spending about 100 more dollars to get something that has the same amount of storage, the 16 gigabytes.
If you want to throw on the case in there and have this bigger device
would I personally choose the Kindle Paperwhite over the base model Kindle?
And all things being the same, right?
Like being the same, they have USB-C.
They both have a high DPI display, like 300 which is more than good enough for reading.
Obviously the backlights or the LED lights,
the on-device lighting,
being able to have the warm light is nice,
but depending on where you're reading and where you need that light,
if you don't have a reading light,
though I think,
100 bucks more or like depending on how you configure it 50 to 100 bucks more
I would just rather have like a nice reading light and invest in a good reading light Whether that's in bed at my desk,
you know out in the living room I really love the base model Kindle.
This is the device that I would choose and probably used for the next five years.
Is it worth the extra $100 for me?
No.
May things,
may one of those things,
like if you don't have a reading light
or a dedicated reading space where you read at your home or traveling a lot and you want that warmer light, great.
If want the bigger screen and bigger font,
like you can do bigger fonts on the smaller screen,
but obviously then you're tap,
tap, tap, Honestly, I think the one thing that I wish was on the base model Kindle was just that faster refresh rate.
It is really nice when you're in the library,
when you're just going between books, especially if you're someone who maybe isn't just reading one book all the time.
If you have a couple books that you like working through,
maybe throughout the week, if you're doing research, I know some students use these to read PDFs and other things like that, textbooks.
That is actually the one.
wish that the base model had that I would, you know, pay a little bit extra for.
But ultimately, yeah, that's my decision.
I think I would still stick with base model Kindle.
It more than good enough for most people.
I think this is probably the Kindle that I'm guessing Amazon is going to probably sell the most of.
But obviously, if you have the money and you want to buy the paper white, it's a solid device too.
It is a little bit bigger, that is a trade-off, it costs a little bit more, that is also a trade-off.
What you're getting for that is a little bit faster display, that warm light, and this a little bit bigger.
I'll have links to both of these devices down in the description below so you can read like
the reviews and see all the different specs, make the decision for yourself.
But I'm curious if you've already pulled the trigger on one or the other in this sort of like modern current generation of the Kindles,
I'm curious to hear what was the defining factor for you.
