Today I want to talk about the power of consistency and more specifically why it matters more than intensity, especially in the beginning.
The reason I want to talk about this.
is because the other day I was reflecting all my life over the past decade,
you know,
I'm almost 30 now so when I started doing anything adventurous was probably 2019-18 and I realized that most everything that I have,
currently the major accomplishments that I have are all results of consistent work.
They're not even consistent hard work.
Just consistent work.
Sometimes lazy, sometimes low effort, but I still showed up.
And I realized that how you do one thing,
how you show up consistently in one aspect of your life,
is how you do every other thing, how you show up in every other aspect.
So take English, for instance, which is one of the first major big goals, big journeys that I went on.
I wasn't really the sharpest student.
I wasn't really the hardest working student.
There were days that I just watched TV regardless of if I was learning any new words.
I simply watched it for the plot.
But because I prioritized this goal, I realized that every student was something.
Even when I was in feeling my best, even when I was in feeling in my element, I still showed up.
But let's not even use my language learning journey as an example because I feel like it was such a long time ago.
It felt kind of foreign.
And second, it might be too close to home.
Like people are still on that journey.
You haven't seen the power of consistency play out in your life.
So let's take working out and trying to lose weight, for instance, because I feel like that's more common.
Like everyone has to go through that realization of, oh shit, I pulled out an excess amount of weight.
Let's try to go to the gym.
Let's try to burn this excess fat off and inevitably run away.
into a dead end.
I don't know if anyone can relate to this but when I realized that I was overweight,
which I was like 20 pounds overweight,
I still don't look my best but this is already the result of me losing the 20 extra pounds.
So you could have a picture exactly how overweight I was.
So the problem I ran into in the beginning was not knowing where to start even,
not knowing who to trust, not knowing what advice to take because there was and still is an abundance or overload of information.
On top of that,
when you go through the gym,
you are interacting or running into seasoned pros, people that have worked out for years, people that know their shit.
you will inevitably feel left out less than intimidated, like you don't know what you're doing.
You feel awkward and embarrassed to even be there when you don't look your best.
And I don't think we talk about the mental gymnastics
of trying to even show up at the gym and show up every single day and show up feeling confident in yourself,
feeling at least assured in yourself.
Enough like I don't know why most of the fitness content online are already like straight to the point
They don't provide a start to finish system a structure for you
So I had to figure that one out by just going to the gym every day for 10
minutes That's where the power of consistency comes in because I wasn't focusing on getting anywhere
With just showing up for 10 minutes like you can't do anything in those
But because I was going every day and I was used to getting to the gym every day regardless of how I felt in that moment
I would still go and while I was there,
I would observe what everyone else was doing I can kind of see how an equipment works theoretically and that's just one example of how
Consistency plays out because look at me now I mean still I don't look my best, but when I go to the gym.
I don't experience fight or flight I don't feel like I don't belong.
I know how to build my workout routine I know what to eat.
I what not to eat I also adopted the same principle when it comes to making videos and making a brand for
myself I didn't start out with the
A lot of times an idea would just look decent enough and I would just post it
I was focused on getting more videos out there than having my videos do the best or having my videos be
Perfect at least according to my standards like they don't even meet my standards a lot of time
But because I know with consistency I can control what I can
control Is it a focusing on how the videos are gonna do I focus on how I can show up how often do I show up?
Okay, give me a second, you know focusing on consistency allows you to not be in your head
so much,
not be so easily frustrated when a certain video doesn't do well,
not be easily frustrated when your weight doesn't go off the next day because you're focused on what you could do today.
It's not easy, it's counterintuitive, but it makes sense.
Nothing.
no successful people attain their success overnight.
And when you put in enough time consistently, that's when a moment of inspiration comes.
That's when some crucial information comes.
And then you can adjust your strategy accordingly and get to the ideal place that you want to be.
but you can't come up with that on day one.
I some people get lucky very rarely,
but most people need to put in the grunt work, show up every day, even lousyly, show up, but show up regardless consistently over time.
That's when you experience compound growth, but most people give up way sooner than they reach that point.
Luckily, I can say with fitness, with learning a foreign language, with building a I've put in the grunt work.
I establish the habit.
I focus on consistency over intensity.
It might not look like I'm working hard at something But I'm so reaping the benefits because yeah,
it's become who I am It's become a part of my life and I don't get dissuaded by seemingly uneventful progress
