But what it's not what you're looking for, so sometimes it's available but it's not free.
I would not necessarily give up because in fact the library do purchase datasets.
So, if you want something that's available, but it needs to be bought, first is the library saying, hey, would you buy this data set?
they buy a lot of things if they think that it would be of interest to other people in the community,
Oh, by the way, if you find it on the Internet and you find it that it's not free, first
figure out whether the library might be.
And then if they don't, then maybe they might get it.
Or you might need to get an agreement with saying,
well, this like for research people, for the course project, would I be able to use your data?
Like it's commercial data, sometimes they let researchers have it for free.
because it's for research purpose.
So might have to find some NDA and non-disclosure agreement and get the data anyway.
Some time the data is available.
It who, but the access is restricted for confidentiality reasons.
So, the J-Ball North America put together a very nice kind of compendium of how do you
get access to various kind of administrative data.
Some of it is actually possible to get hold of, but very, very difficult, like the IRS.
is not very difficult to get access to as long as you're willing to be in the basement of some building in Washington sometimes,
but also sometimes it's in Boston,
even at the NBA or in Cambridge, they have some restricted rooms where you can use some data set that are of restricted use.
So again, maybe not for this class, it may be over-shooting for this class.
graduate students who are interested in a project, give you an example, the census of manufacturing.
You because it's not that hard to identify which form is what,
it's not just on the web,
but you can either are some not wired room in the NBEA where you can use them once you get permission.
So, I might sink a little bit of advanced planning to have access to this data, but because
you might need to sign an agreement and the like, but you may be able to get it.
Usually, when you want to do that,
you have to comply with the partner's requirement for data security, and have to go to an IRB at your institution.
So if it's at MIT, you have to go to them.
We'll have a session on IRB anywhere at some point.
It's sort of there, but it requires some extra steps.
And sometimes it's there, but it's not there in a nice, readily accessible to researchers kind of away.
And then you have to harvest it a little bit.
